Volunteering with ACDAF in Calderdale
Volunteering with ACDAF in Calderdale
Looking for purpose, connection, or simply a reason to get up in the morning? Volunteering can offer far more than something to fill your diary. It can shape communities and influence real change. At ACDAF, taking part means using lived experience to improve access and inclusion across Calderdale.
ACDAF is a user led group of disabled people in Calderdale. Lived experience directs and shapes our project work to develop improved access and inclusion for all. That focus makes our approach different. It grows from everyday reality, not abstract policy.
We are the only organisation in Calderdale offering disabled people the opportunity to gain experience, training and support across a range of roles. As a result, people build confidence, develop skills, and explore new opportunities in a supportive setting.

Why It Matters
Getting involved with ACDAF means helping shape projects that improve access for disabled people. Your insight turns into practical action. You are not observing from the sidelines. Instead, you help guide decisions.
In addition, involvement is flexible. You can join one off focus groups or attend regular online meetings. Monthly meetings last around two hours, and you decide how much time you give. From single events to regular sessions, the level of commitment stays in your control.
Support and accessibility sit at the centre of everything we do. We hold meetings in accessible venues and offer community transport where needed. We reimburse expenses. If you need information in a different format or extra support, just ask. You can also read more about our wider work on access and inclusion Here.
Moreover, many roles can be done from home. Therefore, if travelling is difficult, you can still take part in ways that fit around your life.
Ways to Get Involved
There are many ways to contribute. You might join monthly online meetings or become part of the training team. Perhaps you want to help design materials or write blogs. You could speak at events, join focus groups, meet and greet at activities, sit on steering groups to shape projects, or share fundraising ideas.
Every voice is valued. Bring your skills, ideas, and passion. This is about collaboration, not hierarchy.
According to the National Council for Voluntary Organisations, giving time strengthens communities and improves wellbeing.
